Traveling Switzerland: Explore your senses
«Traveling Switzerland: explore your senses»
When we travel, we often catch a thought that moving away from the routine of everyday life and daily affairs, we approach "real" ourselves, we discover ourselves anew, we explore our feelings, our senses. The video project «Traveling Switzerland: explore your senses» shows us travelling from the other side where the final point of the journey will not be “going back home”, but “falling in love”. Falling in love with a new country and having a desire to meet it again and again. Like a pile of greeting cards that you bring from a trip, this project consists of eight video sketches about a girl who gets acquainted with the culture, cuisine, unique nature, peoples’ lifestyle and the life of Switzerland from the inside. Each episode of the project is a short story about the exciting adventures of the heroine marked on the map of memories related to her journey.
As many other trips, our journey starts at the airport since the plane is the fastest and most convenient way to get anywhere. During the flight you can imagine the relief map of the country that you are flying over, to dream about clouds that scatter apart and you see the snowy peaks of the Alps or you can just torture friendly stewards of Swiss Airlines with hundreds of questions. If you choose Swiss Airlines you’ll have a chance to find out, for example, that the passengers eat 1.25 million of Swiss chocolate sweets a month, stewards and stewardesses have to be excellent swimmers and the engine power of the aircraft A 330-300 can be compared to the power of 50 Ferrari cars. And you can be sure that your luggage won’t be "lost" unless new experiences will make you forget about it! Измените этот текст
Arriving in the city
The first unforgettable impression that you find in Zurich is the way from the airport. The spectacular sights that you see on the way from the airport (Flughafen) to the Central Train Station (Haupbahnhof) speak for themselves. Yes, it definitely is Switzerland, this is exactly what you expect it to be. «L'Ange Protecteur» (Guardian Angel), the sculpture by Niki de Saint Phalle and the symbol of Zurich welcomes tourists at the station.
“A night in the museum”
Our heroine decided to start her acquaintance with the city with Zurich Kunsthaus, the largest Museum of Fine Arts in Switzerland.Masterpieces by Monet and Van Gogh, Picasso and Munch, Rothko and Chagall attract thousands of art lovers.Collections of works of Swiss artists often become real discoveries. Watch, listen to your senses, imagine, draw pictures in your mind. Believe me, the time will pass insensibly. So insensibly that you risk to get lost in it.
A new day in a new city always brings you an absolutely new feeling and at this very moment something tells you that you need to change your image. Our heroine heads for Banhofstrasse, the most expensive shopping street in Europe. Shop windows and signs, shopping bags with new things, everything is glimpsing here and there and you should admit that it creates special mood. This amazing feeling sometimes makes you turn to the unknown lane and then the city suddenly brings you new pleasant surprises. One of the main surprises might be an unexpected feeling of harmony that fills you when you hear bells ringing at the nearby church or when you take a look at the cityscape around you.
Every country and every city has its own taste. For many years we collect our in memories the most bright reminiscences related to some sudden moment, a gastronomic surprise. For our heroine such a surprise was the first piece of bitter, but gentle Swiss chocolate.
Lost in the city
There are some places that you won’t find in guidebooks, some places where locals can escape from the crowds of tourists. In one of these bars on Langstrasse our heroine suddenly met with Zurich face to face. In “OleOle” bar (but shhh, don’t tell anyone about it) you can sit down, relax and chat with strangers about this or that. You will definitely leave the bar happy and cheerful but if somehow you leave the bar sober, then take a night ride on a bicycle and watch the sunrise on the quay of Zurich. Believe me it will be one of you brightest memories.
From lake to lake
Switzerland wouldn’t be Switzerland without emerald meadows and the purest blue lakes and our heroine wouldn’t be herself if she didn’t travel to the Apls and didn’t see that beauty with her own eyes. Spectacular views of the mountains and fields, imperturbable Swiss cows and a highway lit with sun as well as the car that you are riding in. Make a stop at the mountain lake and take a couple of pictures, they will remind you the minutes that you’ve spent here for long time after your journey.
Coming back home after a journey we often think that our live has changed and it will no longer be the same. And so it is. An incredible feeling of lightness and purity (along with the memories of unusual adventures, of meeting new people and of new feelings) is the best souvenir you can bring from the country and keep it as long as possible. Exactly this desire to dive into incredible harmony and to discover new sides of ourselves attracts us back to Switzerland again. It is so easy to leave for Switzerland to explore yourselves and your senses. So, what are you waiting for?

Traveling Russia: Discover celebration
What do we travel for?
For new experiences, of course! We expect that one journey brings us bright sunshine and gentle sea, another one brings us acquaintance with culture and the third one brings you something so new and unusual that you couldn’t even imagine.
A journey is always a search of something that we don’t have in our everyday life. Travel Adventure: Russia is a presentation of modern Moscow with all its width, immensity and extraordinary citizens, with all its love to art, with its rich history and bright events.
We’ve showed all this in the articles about the city, in photos and adventurous video route «Traveling Russia: discover celebration». The video is the sequel of the story about Keiko, the ballerina from Moscow and Phillip, the photographer with whom she met during her trip to Zurich. Now our heroes are going to meet in Moscow, where Philip travels to celebrate the new 2015 year, to see Keiko and where he probably will make one of the most stunning discoveries in his live.
Curious Capital City
It’s not enough to say that there’s a lot of museums in Moscow. There are lots and lots of museums in Moscow and the majority of them amaze with their sizes and immensity. Treasures of the Russian Empire, the scepter and orb, coronation dresses, carriages, unique gemstones and more and more of relics are kept in the Armoury and Diamond Fund (both in the Kremlin).Works of worldwide famous artists can be found in the Pushkin state Museum of Fine Arts and the Tretyakov Gallery. In the halls you can see masterpieces by Picasso, Matisse, Toulouse-Lautrec, Botticelli, Rembrandt, Renoir, Manet and Monet, Cezanne, Gauguin, Constable, Picasso, Dali and many others. More than 4.5 mln of relics are exhibited in Historical Museum on red Square. You should take a walk to open-air museums, parks and manors in Moscow such as Kolomenskoye, Kuskovo, Tsaritsyno, Ostankino and Arkhangelskoye that were built by the best Russian and foreign architects in XVIII-XIX centuries.
For example, you should pay your attention to the grotto at the Kuskovo manor which is cladded with 24 kinds of sea sells. Or to the richly decorated home theatre hall of the Sheremetyevs Dutch family, the Theatre Hall in Ostankino. Or to the first stone tent shaped church in Russia, the Church of Ascension in Kolomenskoye that is deservedly considered as one of the symbols of Moscow.
Moscow, the city that never sleeps.
Moscow never sleeps. It’s possible to find here everything and always. Order a meal of any cuisine of the world, go to the cinema, make a manicure, pick up things from a dressmaker, ride to the tire service, have a Thai massage at any time of the day and any day of the week. Restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, drug stores, even some of the museums are open at night.
Life in Moscow is a never ending race. Seven days a week. Without a respite. It often seems that Moscow is a huge agglomeration of people who can’t sit still. By the moment when this article had been written, the population of Moscow officially was 12,197,596 people.
It is believed that there is nothing more crazy and loose then to have fun with Russian people. It’s not by chance that almost every foreigner knows a famous Russian phrase “Na zdorovye” (something like “cheers” or literally “to our health”, a phrase is said as a toast).
Everything that Russians do, they do it selflessly, especially having fun. Big holidays can last for several days, for example, New Year, which is the central event of the video «Traveling Russia: discover celebration».
This is the most important holiday in Russia, the celebrations start at night of December,31st -January,1st and last till the mid-January(it depends on who and when is able to get back on his or her feet after celebration).
Travel to Russia on the New Year’s Eve and you'll never forget it.

Part V. How to look Swiss on the slope.
Part VI. Night in Arosa.
Part VII. Arosa during the day.
Part VIII. Hockey match or where to find the most handsome gays of Arosa ;)
Sooner or later there comes a moment when you have an overwhelming desire to forget about everything, about all your urgent problems and escape, get lost, change the landscape and entourage. Well, at least for a while.
For this purpose Switzerland is quite an appropriate place. It’s a secluded quiet rich and happy land right in the heart of Europe, where you can find perhaps everything you need. There’s no sea, but instead of the sea there are large magnificent lakes, and the largest one is situated in Geneva with the total area amounting to 581.3 km². But this time we will go to Arosa, the Swiss commune in the canton of Graubünden that is remarkable with its beauty, hospitality and recognized as a great region for skiing and hiking with fantastic routes. The most convenient way to get to Arosa is from Zurich, where our heroine arrives from Moscow.
Today in general all airlines suggest tickets with almost equal prices (we’ve checked, we know), but choosing Swiss Airlines is the best decision for a traveler as they have very good service. It is fast, it is nice, comfortable, with polite attitude. And they give a little bottle of magical wine to accompany a tasty dinner. By the way, the wine is Swiss, produced in local wineries (which are especially valuable, as Switzerland almost has no exports of wine) and selected by one of the largest Swiss retailers, chain stores “Coop”. Well, “In vino veritas”, as you know. Stewards will also offer you, Beer «Quöllfrisch», which comes from the canton of Appenzell and, of course, Swiss chocolate. If you are flying on holiday with low cost tickets and you have one place for hand luggage, there’s no need to go through a humiliating procedure of checking the hand luggage size. The ticket that includes a luggage place, which is 20 euro more expensive, allows you to take not only a bag of 23 kg and hand luggage, but also your ski or a golf bag, for example. And buying a ticket you will not be surprised by all airport, fuel and other taxes, because they are already included into the price. At the moment the airline has several special offers that you can find on Swiss Airlines web site.
Arriving in the city
The first unforgettable impression that you find in Zurich is the way from the airport. The sights on the way from the airport (Flughafen) to the Central Train Station ( Haupbahnhof) speak for themselves. Yes, it definitely is Switzerland, this is exactly what you expect it to be. «L'Ange Protecteur» (Guardian Angel), the sculpture by Niki de Saint Phalle and the symbol of Zurich welcomes tourists at the station.
The ticket from the airport to the station costs 6, 60 CHF, you may buy it special payment terminals in the airport.
The Tain station consists of 16 platforms for long-distance trains and 10 platforms for high-speed city trains. Also high-speed international trains EuroCity, Cisalpino, TGV, Intercity-Express and CityNightLine go through the Central Station. 870 trains depart from the Station a day. The station life is in full swing here with its numerous cafes, shops and everything that is necessary for the travelers it's almost an independent city with a developed infrastructure.
You can exchange money to Swiss Francs (CHF), the local currency, at the station. But they may charge the service fee at about 4 CHZ, regardless of the amount that you exchange. If you have heavy luggage and sometime to stroll around the city before the departure, you may leave your luggage in baggage locker (CHF 9 per day), and oversized baggage can be left in a special office.
Walking along Banhofstrasse
Waiting for the train to Arosa, our heroine goes for a walk to the main street of Zurich , Bahnhofstrasse, that begins literally across the road from the Station. It’s one of the most famous and expensive streets in the world. It appeared in 1864 when the city fortifications were demolished and the ditch in front of them was filled. Previously the area of Bahnhofstrasse was called “The ditch of frogs” (germ. Fröschengraben). And now shop windows and signs, shopping bags with new things are glimpsing here and there. Youshouldadmit, itcreatesaspecialmood. We highly recommended to drop into one shop, a boutique of Swiss chocolate Läderach, that all the locals go crazy about. We know what we say, we were told that by locals. First of all, this chocolate is known for its freshness, the taste of course and the absence of any preservatives.Do brand, as we found out, even has a special board that monitors the taste of the product (we wish we were the members of that board). The chocolate and other sweets are handmade right in the shop, in front of you. You may find more than 20 varieties of bar chocolate that is usually bought here. The price is 6,90 CHF per 100 grams, but it’s worth it, you definitely should taste this chocolate. On your way back you may look for the souvenirs and sweet gifts that can be packed into pretty wraps and boxes, so it will be both nice looking and tasty. If you want chocolate to be delivered to you, you can ordered this service online.
Way from Zurich
Before you use any public transport in Switzerland or go to museums, it’s better to buy Swiss Travel Pass card. It is a good option for travelers who prefer to save money and do not want to buy tickets every time The. Swiss Pass The card provides you an unlimited travel on any scheduled train, bus or tram and all types of boats and ships that are engaged into the public network in 75 cities across the country, and even go to 480 museums and exhibition halls in the system of Swiss Museum Pass (included in the Swiss Travel Pass ).The Ski Pass will provide you discounts for the majority of ski lifts in Switzerland. Swiss Travel Pass can be purchased for 3, 4, 8 or 15 days (price for 3 days - 210 CHF, 15 days - 440 CHF). At first glance, the card is not so cheap, but for example, just one way from Zurich to Arosa and back will cost you CHF 100 and the same story about the majority of routes..
Our heroine decided to travel first class, but there is one interesting detail. In some cars of the Swiss trains it is prohibited to talk, so keep it in mind. The first class will cost more expensive - 336 CHF for 3 days and 704 for 15 days.
Change in Chur
To get from Zurich to Arosa you have to make one change in the town Chur. By the way, take a walk around the town if you have an opportunity. The ancient Romans founded a colony Curia Raetorum, the administrative center of the province of Rhaetia the First. Historically there was the center of a vast area which comprised the fruitful valley of Valtellina (nowadays it’s within the boundaries of Italy). Even until these days the roads leading from Italy across the mountains meet here in Chur and Valtellina wine trade along with tourism bring the main part of income to the city.
We advise you to pay your attention to the Catholic Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (XII-XIII cc.), Bishop's palace (the present Baroque appearance since 1737), the Protestant church of St. Martin, built in VIII century and rebuilt in the second half of the XV century, the city patrician mansions and strange "Giger Bar", the fruit of imagination of the famous science fiction artist from Chur Hans Rudolf "Ryudi" Giger.
Way from Chur to Arosa
But it was a slight digression. So…. The way from Zurich to Arosa fantastically beautiful, so don’t even dare to sleep, you will have a chance to sleep later. Look through the window at the snow-capped mountains and crazy landscapes.
And of course on the way from Chur to Arosa don’t miss a famous Langwieserviadukt. It was built in 1914 and its height is 64 meters. It's such a thrilling beauty. On the stations on your way you will also meet chalets that were built more than 100-120 years. Their exterior remains almost the same as when they were built. If you will make your waslate and it will be dark outside, share some time of your holidays and visit Chur anyway, so that you will see this beautiful route. If you don’t have Swiss Travel Pass the ticket will cost 15
Among other interesting things about this region is the facts that here’re about 600 bunkers, which were built for military purposes during the Second World War. Some of them from afar look like simple farmhouses but in fact it is the secret bunkers with false windows. Roofs of "farmhouses" could be moved apart, revealing installed antiaircraft weapon used to shoot at German planes during the War. One of these bunkers is Cresta Bunker. It is located not far from the town Thusis, that is less than an hour away by train from Arosa.
The train is approaching the station and you already see the mountains and the lake where people ski in winter if it’s cold and ice is thick enough. Right near the station the team of horses is waiting for you to give you a ride to your hotel or apartment if you don’t want to go by bus or walk.
Arosa is an absolutely fantastic place. Iе would seem that it’s just a small town lost in Swiss Alps. But if once you are here, you will fall in love with this place forever. Huge fur trees covered with snow, old chalets built more than a century ago that like they came from a fairy tale, small shops and gorgeous landscapes of Alpes, that remind cracked pieces of fresh Swiss chocolate. Everything is calm and quiet here and no reason to be nervous or worry about anything. People here just didn't get used to worry, they say it themselves. But this calmness is regularly interrupted by crazy parties after riding- Apres-ski.
In 2007 the World Snowboard Championship was held here in Arosa. Among other special events is Gay Ski Week that occurs annually in in the middle of January and it gathers in Arosa guests not only from Switzerland but from other countries of Europe, from USA and even Australia.
There’s no chance to get bored here because you can find all kinds of leisure activities: bars, clubs, shops, spa, ice hockey, ice skating, hiking, curling, billiards, trips to the vicinity, and it is not a complete list. At least visit a couple of restaurants and taste local cuisine, it’s really worth tasting. And fondue, of course! Don’t let its smell trick you, the taste is delicious, it’s impossible to stop eating it.
One more thing that you should pay attention to are sledges, that are almost everywhere here, it’s a very popular type leisure in Arosa. There are hills all over the town and sledge is not only fun but also a very convenient way to get from one place to another (especially if someone pulls you up to the top of the hill.
In the beginning of your trip we recommend you to visit Tourism Office of Arosa that is situated next to the train station , the specialists will answer your questions, solve any of your problems, advise you where to eat, what to watch, where to go and where to stay. Well, in short they can give you a lot of useful info.
The nightlife is also rich here. Probably one of the best decisions will be an idea to have a walk along Poststrasse where all popular bars and clubs are situated. First of all in the beginning of your night drop by the bar Dapfbar and enjoy the best night panorama view of the city or take a seat next to the fireplace with a cocktail drink. Ask a barman to prepare something special for you won’t be disappointed. At about midnight in the same building Wandelbar opens its doors for the guests where Michael, the main night clubber and a great photographer, will play for you his fresh sets.
When you are ready to go to another place, walk up Poststrasse along a couple of buildings and you will get to Los, favorite place of snowboarders and loose party people. Don’t pass by this place, even at the entrance to the bar you will see poles that attract people during the hottest parties of the town. To finish your night we recommend you in Provisorium 13. It’s such a great place that it’s impossible to find words to describe it. But we have to warn you, if you start your night here, you will not leave it till the end.
In 1894 Arthur Conan Doyle has made the ski jump from Davos to Arosa and wrote about it in his essay «An Alpine Pass on ski». The area is proud of its unique microclimate - here are usually quiet, windless and almost always sunny. In Arosa there are very comfortable weather conditions combined with a compact but interesting ski area. New ski lifts were built here recently and they united "Arosa - Lenzerheide" ski area, thus now about 225 km of the slopes are available for skiers and snowboarders. For comparison famous and throng St. Moritz - 350 km, Davos - 310 km, and the Flims-Laax-Falera - 235 km. the highs on "Arosa - Lenzerheide" are from 1750 to 2653 meters. The tracks directed to south-east are wide and spacious, so the ride is comfortable and your moves are not constrained . A Ski Pass for the whole day that covers the whole region costs 61 CHF and you can rent all the equipment for snowboarding or skiing in Bananas Center that is situated next to the ski lift (one of the best rental places) in Arosa. Ski or snowboarding equipment will cost you at about 40CHF. If you do not know how to ski or ride a snowboard, do not worry, here are the excellent instructors who will help you in any case, whether you can stay on a snowboard or skis or not. The great instructors will teach you to ride fast, show you off-piste slopes and even teach you how to jump on ski-ramps or slide on reills. But keep in mind that the prices for these services are quite costly.
There are about 40 hotels in Arosa, in a town with population 3247 people (for 2014), so you’ll easily find a place to stay whatever taste or budget you have. Among our favorite hotels is Hotel Seehof-Arosa one of the oldest hotels and absolutely unique that combines old wooden parts with new ultra-modern part. It has a few bars and restaurants (don’t miss breakfast or dinner, it’s a special pleasure) and a modern Provisorium 13 (one of the main places for the parties and Apres Ski in the town with a good bar and good music) and, of course Tschuggen Grand Hotel
Tschuggen Grand Hotel
Tschuggen Grand Hotel is one of the most unusual 5 star hotels of Switzerland, where heroine of our film stayed. The hotel history starts in 1883 when Otto Erving from Hanau came to Arosa to recover his health with curative mountain air. In 1892 he founded his sanatorium here and in winter of 1929-1930 it war refitted to a hotel which gradually became not only a summer resort but also a winter resort. Now after numerous innovations this hotel charms its guests with elegancy, respectable atmosphere, traditional Alpine hospitality and unusual architecture. It’s a pleasure to say about it the following: «Everyone here knows exactly where to be, what to do and how to do it right with a natural smile and attention to the details”.
For the first sight you are surprised by a stunning architecture and design, the ideal symmetry in everything. It will be comfortable for perfectionists here. The lovers of actual arts will also love this place because the hotel has a good collection of different art items everywhere in halls, lounges, stairs and even in rooms. .Along with the collection of works by Сarlo Rampazzi (he’s the art collector of the hotel) and David Villa we should mention exclusive Hermes chairs 40 000CHF each, original chandelier in one of the halls made of murano glass, wallpapers made of tobacco leaves in a cigar room (the designer pasted in each leave during a day), furniture made of English cashmere where the British tea is served for the guests and etc.
In the rooms which price starts from 350CHF (single room 19 sq.m.) to 3470CHF (Tschuggen Suite - 148 кв.м.) are spacious and cozy and have spectacular alpine views of snowy valleys, tops of mountains. Whether you are the guest of the hotel or not, go to the spa complex. Its area is 5000 sq. m., situated on 4 floors it includes numerous thermal baths, procedure rooms, guestroom with a fireplace, fitness and a zone of medical wellness. For building of the hotel were used such materials as Duke White, a massive rock of Arosa region and the Canadian maple wood. The light penetrates into the spa through the unusual “glass sails” created by Mario Botta. These objects direct the light into the premises that are underground during the day and enlighten the village side at night attracting the attention.
Drop by the igloo in a couple of steps from the hotels, it was built in 8 days and we should say it’s quite impressive. There in the restaurant you may taste fondue.
No matter for how long you stay in Arosa, you should visit the hockey match. First of all it is incredibly spectacular. Secondly, there are many curious local traditions that are worth watching. And the reason number three is Arosa team. It was found in 1924 and it's really a strong team and the fact that they have won in Swiss championship already for 9 times proves it. And an advice for girls: Arosa team players are perhaps the most handsome guys of the town. Other cool guys who do not play hockey come to watch the game. So, go to the match and keep your eyes open ;) It's better to buy tickets a few days before the match because there're a lot of hockey fans and sometimes locals go to watch hockey match with whole family and it may happen that the tickets are sold out.
